LifeThought: You are a world-changer!

You are a world-changer! Don’t let anyone, especially yourself, take that thought away from you!

Stop looking around. I’m talking about you! Yes, you. You are a world-changer!

I have a very good friend who just returned from a trip to Honduras as part of a medical missions team. I’d like to share with you part of an email message I sent her:

Today you are coming home from one of the most amazing experiences you’ve ever had in your life. The work you did, the smiles and hugs you gave, the lives you touched will make a difference, not just in the villages of Honduras, but throughout the entire world and for the rest of time! You changed someone’s life for the better. That person will go on to change other people’s lives, and those people will do the same for generations and across continents—all because you overcame your fears, stepped out in faith, packed your bags, and got on a flight to Honduras with people you didn’t really know. You, my friend, are a world-changer! Don’t let anyone, especially yourself, ever take that thought away from you!

Have you ever stopped to think about the impact you have on the world? It is huge! Just about the time you start to feel insignificant in this world, like your existence does not really matter, let me put a stop to those thoughts. You matter and what you do is important!

I frequently walk past the exit door on my way into our local Sam’s Club store and I see people smiling on their way out. I think to myself, “Rose must be working today!” Rose is a little old lady who checks people’s receipts and carts as they leave the store. Rose always smiles, looks at me with her sincere eyes, and says, “I hope you have a wonderful day, Mr. Van Horn.” She does this with everyone and she really means it. I wonder how many people carry that smile back home or to work, or share a similar kind word with someone else, all because of Rose.

You don’t have to go to Honduras or be part of a medical missions teams in order to change the world. You do not have to give a lot of money to charity or create some invention that makes life better for all humanity. All you have to do is love someone, give a friendly smile, a compliment, a helping hand, or some other genuine act of kindness. Be a good mother or father, or a friendly neighbor. You may not think these small things are world changing, but they really are!

You see, the little things you do matter. Kindness, generosity, and compassion are contagious! So, when you are starting to feel insignificant, never let anyone, especially yourself, take this away from you: You are a world-changer!
